“Birds in Transit” is an installation of silhouetted birds cut from solid color vinyl graphic film, adhered to the interior walls of the West Lobby of the Tracy Transit Station. In keeping with the theme on transportation and movement, I researched migratory birds that pass through the San Joaquin Valley en route to winter grounds or summer breeding grounds. I chose four non-resident migratory bird species known to summer or winter locally to comprise the selection; specifically, the Tree Swallow, Snowy Egret, Rufous Hummingbird and Least Sandpiper. An accompanying text graphic identifies each species and provides facts relating to habitat and behavior. The interior arches of the Transit Station house the various birds as they fly, feed and congregate.
